Recently we joined the Natural Poultry Improvement Plan which is an organization that promotes healthy flocks of chickens across the US. The certification associated with NPIP tests for several different diseases that poultry can harbor making them sick.
In order to be certified, our flock of chickens are tested twice a year for certain disease and our housing facilities are inspected to insure they are kept in healthy and safe conditions.
Here at Penland Family Farms we want the best for our chickens and care about their health which is one of the reasons that prompted our decision to become certified. The certification also allows us to be able to safely sell baby chicks or eggs to other poultry breeders. We aren't selling purebred chickens at this time but plan to sell hatching eggs in the future.
